Sciatica
Sciatica is a condition that causes pain in the lower back that travels through the buttock, down the back of the leg, and into the foot. It can make sitting or standing for long periods uncomfortable and may also cause weakness, tingling, or numbness in the leg and foot. For many people, symptoms come and go over time, sometimes worsening if left untreated.
This type of pain occurs when the sciatic nerve—the longest nerve in the body—becomes compressed or irritated. The nerve starts in the lower spine, runs through the hips and buttocks, and continues down the leg to the foot. When the vertebrae in the lower back are not moving or aligned properly, they can put pressure on the nerve, leading to pain and other symptoms.
Chiropractic care focuses on finding and correcting the source of the problem. After a thorough evaluation, specific spinal adjustments are used to improve alignment and reduce pressure on the nerve. This helps the body heal naturally and can ease sciatic symptoms over time.
Recovery looks different for everyone. Some people improve quickly, while others need more time depending on how long the issue has been present and how much the spine or discs are involved. In most cases, the sooner the problem is addressed, the faster improvement can occur. As spinal function improves, many patients also notice better overall health and mobility.
